Frequently asked questions
The book, the author, what is free, what is not, and what the book does not promise.
What is The Unreasonable Why about?
It argues that people abandon dreams not because they lack discipline but because their reason for continuing gets outweighed by the discouragement around them — and that the answer is to find a reason strong enough that it does not need to be justified to anybody. Ten chapters, ten reasons, each closing with a reflection exercise. Full description →
Who wrote The Unreasonable Why?
Rodel Sinapilo — a Filipino author and social entrepreneur, co-owner of Coco Deli, a Philippine social enterprise. He grew up somewhere that did not encourage big ambitions and spent years working overseas. More about him →
Can I read The Unreasonable Why for free?
Partly, and properly. The whole Introduction and the whole of Chapter 1 are on this site with no email required — about a fifth of the book. The other nine chapters are in the paperback.
How long is the book?
113 pages, ten chapters. An afternoon to read through, though it is built for returning to — each chapter ends with questions meant to be answered slowly.
Is there a Kindle, ebook or audiobook edition?
Not at the moment — paperback only, on Amazon. If that changes, the buy page will say so.
Who is the book for?
Less for people in crisis than for people who are, by every external measure, fine — and who stopped mentioning the thing they actually want somewhere around five years ago. Comfort is the antagonist of this book. Why that is →
What are the ten reasons in the book?
Reason one is your dream is one of a kind — you can read it in full. Reason two is that great things take time. We deliberately do not list the other eight as bullet points: a one-line summary of a chapter is not the chapter, and reducing them would misrepresent the book.
Is this a religious book?
No. It is a general personal-development book that leans on psychology — Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory opens Chapter 1 — and on ordinary stories from Rodel’s own life.
Does the book promise my dream will work out?
No, and it says so in the Introduction. Its argument is that the decision to continue should rest on the strength of your reason, not on the odds — because the odds were never the thing that actually stopped you.
Where can I buy it?
Paperback on Amazon, ISBN 978-969-699-296-7. Bulk copies for a group or event are arranged directly — details here, or write in through the contact form.
