One line

Ten reasons not to give up on your dreams — from a Filipino social entrepreneur who built one from a place that gave him no reason to believe it was possible.

Short — 50 words

The Unreasonable Why argues that people abandon their dreams not from a lack of discipline but because their reason for continuing gets outweighed by the discouragement around them. Rodel Sinapilo offers ten reasons to keep going, each closing with a reflection exercise. No quick fixes, and no promises.

Long — 120 words

Most people do not decide to give up. The dream is quietly downgraded — from a plan, to a someday, to something they used to talk about — and no moment of deciding ever arrives. That is the observation The Unreasonable Why is built on.

Rodel Sinapilo argues that a dream survives on the strength of the reason behind it, and that reason rarely looks reasonable from the outside. Across ten short chapters, each ending in a reflection exercise, he makes the case for continuing — drawing on research such as Deci and Ryan’s work on intrinsic motivation, and on ordinary people rather than celebrities.

Written from the Philippines by the co-owner of a social enterprise, not from the far side of a famous success. 113 pages.

Author bio — short

Rodel Sinapilo is a Filipino author and social entrepreneur, and co-owner of Coco Deli, a Philippine social enterprise working with local farming communities. The Unreasonable Why is his book on why people give up, and why they should not.

Author bio — long

Rodel Sinapilo was born and raised where dreaming big was neither encouraged nor thought possible. Like many Filipinos he went overseas to work and support his family, and knows the particular loneliness of a life put on hold while everything looks fine from outside.

He is now co-owner of Coco Deli, a Philippine social enterprise making food products from coco sap, lettuce and oyster mushrooms while working with smallholder farmers. He wrote The Unreasonable Why to say one thing plainly: if he could turn a vision into something real starting from where he started, so can the reader.

Book

Cover art

The cover is the highest-resolution version that exists; it is the file the book was produced from. Please do not crop or recolour it.

Identity

Wordmark and mark

Vector SVG with the type outlined, so it renders correctly wherever it is opened, plus a 2000 px transparent PNG of each. The mark on its own is the sienna WHY with the two thought-bubble dots from the cover — use it where the full lockup would be too small to read.

Wordmark on gold Wordmark on gold SVG + PNG · the primary lockup SVG PNG
Wordmark for light backgrounds Wordmark for light backgrounds SVG + PNG · transparent SVG PNG
Wordmark for dark backgrounds Wordmark for dark backgrounds SVG + PNG · transparent SVG PNG
Mark — sienna Mark — sienna SVG + PNG · transparent SVG PNG
Mark — cream Mark — cream SVG + PNG · transparent SVG PNG
Mark on gold Mark on gold SVG + PNG SVG PNG

SVG is the master; the PNG is 2000 px wide, with a transparent background on every variant except the two that carry gold.

Social

Facebook page assets

Laid out around Facebook’s two different crops and its two avatar positions, so nothing gets cut or covered. Upload the JPG cover rather than the PNG — Facebook re-encodes everything, and it has less to destroy in a JPEG. The two preview files are reference images showing how the banner lands; they are not for uploading.

Social

Quote cards

These are original lines written for social media — they are not quotations from the book. Please do not reprint them as excerpts or attribute them to a page or chapter. If you need something quotable from the book itself, the Introduction and Chapter 1 are published here in full and may be quoted directly. The one factual claim among the cards — twelve publishers rejecting the first Harry Potter, and the thirteenth saying yes after the chairman’s eight-year-old daughter read the opening chapter — is documented.

Story carousels

Three sequences, each built on the same six beats: the dream, the world says no, doubt, the why appears, the unreasonable decision, it becomes real. Same caveat as above — the writing is original, not excerpted.

Twelve nos · 11 slides

The J.K. Rowling rejection story told in second person, so the reader is inside it until slide 9. Every fact in it is documented.

The one you stopped talking about · 10 slides

The ordinary version of the same arc — no famous person, nobody to measure yourself against.

One more time · 10 slides

Dream, be realistic, try, fail, take the job, bury it, the reminder, the decision. Ends on the decision rather than the outcome.

Using any of this

Yes, for coverage of the book. Reviews, articles, podcast episode art, newsletters, bookshop listings, reading-group material — take what you need, no permission required and no need to tell us.

Please don’t recolour or crop the cover, redraw the wordmark, or present the social-card lines as quotations from the book.

Not currently available: there is no author photograph in this kit yet. If you need one for a piece, ask through the contact form and we will send one over.
